Leaving Firenze is heartbreaking, this city has given me so much on this trip. This is the first place I have traveled to outside of the U.S. It will forever have a special place in my heart. I will miss walking everywhere. It takes 15-20 minutes to walk anywhere. Passing the architecture everyday is something I will miss so much.
Leaving Firenze means packing. I wasn’t too worried about packing, considering the fact that Chelsey and I didn’t buy many souvenirs. We also use space bags when packing, it saves so much room. Here are some tips for the students who want to study abroad in Firenze.
Use space bags
Wear your biggest coat and chunky shoes
Plan on what you want to buy (souvenirs, clothes…)
Don’t buy souvenirs. Chelsey and myself only bought some special pieces for our intermediate family. Shot glasses, t-shirts and mugs won’t be used. I recommend getting postcards for family. They’re lightweight and easy to pack away. It is nice because you can personalize it by writing a kind message for someone on the back. Write about your day or Firenze in general. Your family will love it.
Non packing tip: Get a international plan for your phone. Get a small or big one, just get one. It will make it easier for you to get a taxi or call in case of emergency. There isn’t always wifi where you go, so just to be safe, I would recommend one.
Also for future students who want to study abroad. Just go for it, I know you will be a bit homesick. Your family will always be there for you and want you to succeed. It is hard to get out of the comfort zone of college. Just go for it and document it, for example through instagram, blogging or keeping a journal. I will treasure these blog posts forever and these photos taken on this trip. Ciao!
