Instead of going to class on Monday morning, we participated in a community service activity here in Firenze. I was very excited to help this beautiful city, that has been welcoming to our group.
We were able to clean up this beautiful park through Angeli Del Bello. When we arrived we were handed a vest and gloves, which we were able to keep. We then went straight to work. Divided into three groups: garbage picking, painting and pulling weeds. My sister and I started with picking up trash, we had a “trash picker” that we were amused by. We found some pretty strange things, but we were happy to get them off the ground.
Then Chelsey and I started a new task: pulling up weeds. Being from Kentucky this wasn’t out of my comfort zone. It was a lot of fun, despite the wind, which made it harder. Still, I enjoyed being with friends and helping Firenze.
We took a caffè break, Antonio (our father of Firenze) picked up the tab. Throughout the whole day Antonio kept saying thank you to us, but it was an honor for us to help this city. Thank you Antonio for giving us the knowledge and experiences on this trip; you have given us so much.
After the caffè, we left the park and had some free time before our cooking class that evening. Below are some photos of the day. We had a blast at the cooking class, we loved sharing this with our EKU Alumni.
